Fedora 37 – re-enable printing

My Fedora 36 to 37 upgrade when relatively well, after removing a few packages (flash_player_plugin, perl-Crypt-Primes, mlocate, gnumeric-plugin-extras, hex-chat, mod_perl, pcsc_Perl, perl-Crypt-Random, etc). However, my printer couldn’t be found, nor was plex visible. I found I needed to open the mdns and ipp-client firewall services for the network printer and the plex service.

Tall bookcase conversion to base and top

I built a tall bookcase for our son in early 2004. Since then he’s moved a few times and now he is a first-time homeowner. It was hard to move this book case, so to make something that seemed more in style with a 1950 house, I decided to rebuild it as two pieces, so in early January 2020 I cut the top off where I had a fixed shelf 30″ up from the bottom. Then I added 4″ of depth to the bottom section, added 2 drawers, and doors, and solid top glued up from 3 pieces of Red Oak. Photographic history below:

updating to Trans Am Race Engineering Superlite wheels

CARiD seems to have the best information and availability of the Trans Am Race Engineering Superlite wheels, which are a good clone of the wheels on the Boss 302’s raced in the Trans Am series circa 1970. However there is confusion when it comes to the offset specs. Their site shows that a -8mm offset is required for the 17×9.5″ wheels to fit the back of a ’69-’70 Mustang Fastback. That would be 4.4″ of backspace. In reality, this wheel has 5.5″ of backspace and computes to +8mm offset. Great service and very diligent about ensuring fitment.  These back wheels took around a month to get, presumably due to importing from Australia.  Getting the proper offset for the front was a difficult process.  The -2mm or 0mm recommended offsets would have put the tires very close to the fenders.  I took a risk on 5″ backspace, which paid off.  I would not try that much backspace with stock suspension parts.  The Street-or-Track suspension provides more clearance around the upper ball-joint making this possible.

Photos below:

17×9.5″ wheel temporarily mounted on front Wilwood brake hub. Note that the normal center cap has to be removed. The ARE-234 wheels had a 3″ hub, with a larger cover that barely covered the 3″ lugs. I’m not a fan of the long lugs for a street car, but I love those brakes compared to the Kelsey-Hayes ’67 4-piston brakes I ran from 1979-1999.
