updating to Trans Am Race Engineering Superlite wheels
CARiD seems to have the best information and availability of the Trans Am Race Engineering Superlite wheels, which are a good clone of the wheels on the Boss 302’s raced in the Trans Am series circa 1970. However there is confusion when it comes to the offset specs. Their site shows that a -8mm offset is required for the 17×9.5″ wheels to fit the back of a ’69-’70 Mustang Fastback. That would be 4.4″ of backspace. In reality, this wheel has 5.5″ of backspace and computes to +8mm offset. Great service and very diligent about ensuring fitment. These back wheels took around a month to get, presumably due to importing from Australia. Getting the proper offset for the front was a difficult process. The -2mm or 0mm recommended offsets would have put the tires very close to the fenders. I took a risk on 5″ backspace, which paid off. I would not try that much backspace with stock suspension parts. The Street-or-Track suspension provides more clearance around the upper ball-joint making this possible.
